Honey is a wonderful natural sweetener with a plethora of health benefits. On the other hand, raw honey is not recommended for babies because it can contain spores of clostridium botulinum, a bacteria found in soil and dust resulting in botulism, which causes paralysis of the skeletal muscles. Further, pollen in the honey may trigger the babies and increase the level of allergic reactions. You may consider using organic clothes to prevent any pollen entry.
2. Cow’s Milk
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no cow’s milk until after your baby’s first birthday. This is because your baby cannot digest cow’s milk due to the complex protein structure, whereas breast milk or formula milk is easy to digest and has the right amount of protein, sugar, and fat needed to provide nourishment to your baby.
3. Egg Whites
Although egg whites are well-known for their protein content, feeding your baby until or before their first birthday can do a lot more harm than good. The egg whites contain four proteins that may cause allergic reactions in toddlers. It is not necessary to switch for any other source of proteins as breast milk yields vital proteins at this stage.
Fruits like lemon and orange that are rich in citrus content should be avoided due to its high level of acidity as they can upset your baby’s gut. The symptoms may include diaper rash and redness around the mouth. Instead, you might consider feeding your baby with apples, bananas, avocados, etc., that are loaded with vitamin C and phytochemicals.
Do not feed your baby fish, shellfish, shrimp, clams, crabmeat, etc., as they may contain high levels of mercury. This naturally occurring element, mercury found in air, water, and food, cannot be washed away with any form of cooking or food processing techniques.
Also, consuming these foods during the gestation period may affect the brain and nervous system of the fetus. Further, the memory, dialect, and attention span of the baby is altered. Likewise, mercury may be present on clothes as well. That’s why it is crucial to practice the use of organic baby clothes.
6. Soft Foods And Candies
Soft foods like marshmallows and candies rich in sugar content should be strictly avoided, which otherwise may spike blood sugar levels and lead to obesity in later phases. Similarly, foods like cheese and butter with increased salt levels can harm the immature kidneys, as they are not well-developed to process the excess salt. In addition, these foods can easily dwell in a baby’s throat and may possess choking hazards.
7. Large Chunk Foods
Your newborns are not fully developed to intake chunky foods. Therefore, make sure to feed solids that are finely mashed and grounded. Fruits like grapes and guava should be avoided as they have little seeds that are hard and lodge in their throat, leading to choking and other discomforts.

Breastfeeding moms should limit their intake of highly processed foods because they lack essential nutrients and may affect their child’s food preferences later in life. Saturated and trans fats (found in many junk foods) can alter the composition of your breast milk and may harm your child’s health. Additionally, high sugar and fat content can affect the child’s mood, behavior, and health.
Say No To Alcohol
Drinking alcohol when breastfeeding is a no-no. Alcohol concentrations in breast milk are similar to the concentrations in the mother’s bloodstream. Pumping or expressing milk after consuming alcohol does not significantly reduce alcohol in the mother’s milk. Alcohol consumption during breastfeeding could also harm an infant’s sleep pattern and early development. Consequently, the baby’s nervous system may be adversely affected.
Spicy foods may easily trigger babies. A small bit of pepper is sufficient to cause some serious harm and remain fussy for a long time. Therefore, you ought to have fewer spices in your food if you see your baby getting upset.
